Basis of Radioactive Decay

Increased rate of radioactive decay in winter:

The observation that radioactive elements decay at a faster rate in winter than summer has a simple explanation.  As the earth speeds up through the closest part of its orbit the direction of motion approaches perpendicular in relation to the sun.  The Earth's axis also becomes closest to being aligned with the sun's.
